Single and Working Moms Can Benefit from Obama's Federal Scholarships Program

At one point in my life, I was ready to give up. I had 2 young children and a menial job. I could not rise up the employment ladder because I had no education. I was lucky because I found out about grants and scholarships that allowed me to complete a degree program and get a good career.

If you are at that point in your life, then you can have a chance. Thanks to President Obama's new stimulus package, the grants that you may receive have dramatically increased. Obama believes that all Americans deserve a higher education and he has worked to see this happen.

The types of grants that are available are called Pell Grants. They have been around for a long time but the amount awarded through this program has not kept up with the rising cost of higher education. Now, the maximum you can receive if you qualify is $5,350. If you are going to school year round, you may also receive an addition $2,675 for the summer.

In order to receive a Pell Grant through the Obama Stimulus package, you will have to meet certain financial guidelines. However, if you are a single mom, you will probably qualify for at least part if not the full award. The best thing about a Pell Grant is that they do not have to be repaid, ever!

To get started, visit the financial aid office at your local college. A trained advisor can help you with the paperwork and may suggest other awards and scholarships that you will qualify for. Now is the best time to make those dreams happen. Thank you, President Obama.
